The customers of this 1970s Colonial wanted a big open space. The problem was the first floor was made up of several small dark rooms, with shag carpet and wood paneling. We jacked up the second floor and installed a massive beam down the middle to hold up the entire house, this allowed us to remove all the walls and create the big space the desired. Since all the walls were gone, there was no room for the ductwork to the second floor. We installed a 2 zone gas-heat and air-conditioning system. All new ductwork in the attic and basement, and high efficiency units will pay for themselves in a couple years. We installed all new hardwood on the entire first floor, custom cabinets, granite tops, tile backsplash, custom lighting, and all new appliances.
